U19 Men Indoor - Program Info

The purpose of the U19 National Team program is to identify, select and train a group of athletes who have future Senior National Team potential. The goal is to identify and develop an athlete pool through training opportunities for Team Canada programs.

General information

U19 Program Info:

The purpose of the U19 Program is to identify and select a group of young athletes with the attributes consistent with high performance and offer them the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2024 NORCECA Championship in Ponce, Puerto Rico, from May 13 to 19, 2024.

 

NEP Program Info:

Identification for the National Excellence Program (NEP) will be through the GMTM Virtual Platform with athletes submitting highlight and game video, along with physical statistics. The deadline for submission is April 7, 2024, with athlete selection taking place at the end of May. Athlete Eligibility

Athletes MUST:

  • Be born in 2007 or later
  • Be Canadian citizens demonstrated by a Canadian passport valid until at least February 11, 2025

Athlete identification and selection

Athlete Identification Process

All interested athletes must register on the GMTM platform from March 8 to 22, 2024. CLICK HERE (Fee: $50 USD)

Selection Process

Volleyball Canada will select and invite 12 athletes to Toronto. There may be 1 training session in the evening of May 11 (TBC). The team will stay in a hotel that night and fly to Puerto Rico the next day.

2024 Program Dates

March 8 – GMTM website open for video submissions
March 22 – End of video submission
March 23-30 - Athlete selection
April 1st – Invitations sent out
April 7 – Deadline for invitation acceptance
May 11 – Arrival of selected athletes in Toronto
May 12 – Departure to Puerto Rico from Toronto
May 13 to 19 – U19 Norceca Championship – Ponce, Puerto Rico
May 20 – Return to Canada

It’s important to note that all athletes will come back to Canada in time to participate in VC’s 17U Nationals in Edmonton (May 23 to 26)

Financial Implications

All athletes selected to the Program will be required to pay a $3000 program fee/fundraising obligation. The money raised from these fees will be used to offset travel, training, and competition costs for the program.

Athletes must make their own arrangements to travel to Toronto on May 11 (afternoon). Volleyball Canada will cover the cost (and the arrangements) of the flights to Puerto Rico AND the return flights home for everyone.
