Long Beach Grand Slam: Canadian Teams Results Summary

The FIVB Long Beach Grand Slam wrapped up yesterday in Long Beach, California with the home team winning double gold. Kerri Walsh and April Ross took home the title on the women’s side, and Sean Rosenthal and Philip Dalhausser claimed men’s gold.

Canada entered three teams on both the men’s and the women’s side. Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter, along with Chaim Schalk and Ben Saxton advanced to the first round of playoffs. Binstock-Schachter fell 2-0 to Plavins-Solovejs of Latvia while Schalk-Saxton were eliminated in two sets by Felipe-Evandro of Brazil.

Taylor Pischke and Melissa Humana-Paredes also finished in a tie for 17th place after losing 2-1 to Holtwick-Semmler of Germany in the first round of playoffs.

Maverick Hatch and Christian Redmann, Heather Bansley and Sarah Pavan, and Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas all went 0-3 through pool play and failed to advance to the playoffs. The three teams finished in 25th place.

The next stop on the tour will be the Klagenfurt Grand Slam from July 29th – August 3rd in Klagenfurt Austria.
