MacTavish and Whitaker equal season’s best result on World Tour

ANAPA, Russia – Kacie MacTavish and Caleigh Whitaker, both of Sharon, Ont.,  equalled their best result this season on the FIVB World Tour beach volleyball circuit on Friday with a ninth place finish.

The 13th seed Canadians went 2-1 in round robin action to place second in their pool.  In the first playoff match held Friday morning MacTavish and Whitaker defeated 17th seeds Cindy Treland and Janne Pedersen of Norway 21-17-24-22.

Their run ended in the second round against number-two seeds Xue Chen and Xia Xinyi of China 23-21, 19-21, 15-11.

‘’Kacie and I are happy with our second top-10 finish this season and that we are developing more consistent results,’’ said Whitaker.  ‘’We are continually striving to attain even better finishes this season.’’

Victoria Cowley of Toronto and Kerri Smit of Shubenacadie, N.S., were also in the main draw and went 0-3 in the round robin.

On the men’s side, Sam Pedlow of Barrie, Ont., and Grant O’Gorman of Toronto were 1-2 in the round robin while Mike Plantinga of Langley, B.C., and Cameron Wheelan of Barrie were 0-3.  Both teams finished fourth in their respective pools and did not advance.
