Team Canada Women's Volleyball Centre - University of Manitoba, Winnipeg

Full Time Training Centre: October 2013-April 2014


Purpose:

The purpose of FTC is to enhance the long-term objective of identifying, selecting and developing a group of athletes with ability or potential for qualifying for the 2014 FIVB Championship, the 2016 Olympics, the 2020 Olympics as well as performing well in the 2013-2016 quadrennial. The goal for FTC is to have a minimum of 8-10 identified athletes participating in FTC while it is in place. The full-time training centre focuses on graduated CIS/CCAA athletes to prepare them for international level of training and eventually competition.

FTC 2013-2014:

In addition to guidance from Head Coach Arnd Ludwig (Lupo) and Assistant Coach, Scott Koskie, athletes receive services from the Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba, which include Sport Scientist Daryl Hurrie, Strength & Conditionning Coach Adam Toffan, Sport Psychologist Adrienne Leslie-Toogood and Nutritionist, Jorie Janzen.  

In addition to volleyball sessions, conditioning and weight training, the athletes will be venturing out into the community helping out with various events.  These events include reading to elementry schools, running clinics for local volleyball clubs, helping out with local fundraisers, and more to come!  

There are currently five athletes in the FTC:


Brittney Page: Vernon, BC
Position: Right side
Previous club team: Barbar D'X-Elles (Belgium) 

Brittney was selected to Team Canada in 2009 and has been a member ever since.  She has played in 98 international matches and is now the Team Captain.  She has played professional volleyball in Spain, Austria, Finland and Belgium.  She played her university career in the NCAA at Eastern Washington University.  She hopes to get another professional contract while training in the FTC. 


Jennifer Lundquist: Surrey, BC
Position: Setter
Previous club team: Montana State University 

2013 marked Jenn's first selection to Team Canada.  She was selected and became the number one setter in the same summer.  She traveled to the 2013 Pan Am Cup and the NORCECA Championship.  In each four seasons of her NCAA career, she received a Big Sky All-Conference Academic award.  


Dani Smith: Beaverlodge, Alberta
Position: Setter
Previous Club team: Vancouver Island University 

Dani was first selected for Team Canada in 2012 on the B team.  She then went on to finish her final year in the CCAA attending the Vancouver Island University.  She finished as a CCAA All-Canadian and was the 2013 Nanimo Female Athlete of the Year.  She came back to the centre and made the national A team. She competed in her very first international competition at the Pan Am Cup in June in Peru. 


Tesca Andrew-Wasylik: Unionville, Ontario
Position: Libero
Previous Club team: FTC 2013 (University of Winnipeg 2011-12)

Tesca made the National B Team in 2011 and 2012.  In 2013, she made the Senior A Team and travelled for the first time to the 2013 FISU Games in Russia.  She played her first four years of CIS volleyball (as an outside hitter) at Wilfrid Laurier University.  She had to transfer universities, as the program at Wilfrid Laurier was discontinued after the 2010-2011 season.  She played her fifth and final season at the University of Winnipeg as a libero.  She finished her final season by being awarded the CIS Libero of the Year.  She is currently working on her Athletic Therapy degree at the U of W. 



Brooke Halvorsen: Vancouver, BC
Position: Libero
Previous Club Team: University of Calgary

Brooke was a member of the 2012 B national team.  She started her university career at Simon Fraser University where she played two years.  She then transfered to the University of Calgary for her final three years.  At the U of C she was an All-Canadian and on the Dean's List.  She just finished her final semester in Italy and hopes to make the senior team in 2014 and to play professional volleyball in the future.   


Shauntelle Hogg: Calgary, Alberta
Position: Middle 
Previous Club Team: The Women's Junior National Team 

Shauny attended FTC last winter after she finished grade 12 a semester early just to be able to join the Full-Time Centre!  She then went on to make the 2013 Junior National Team.  In 2010 her club team won a gold medal at National Championships and she was an All-Star.  


Colleen Ogivlie: Calgary, AB
Position: Left Side
Previous Club Team: CEP Poitiers St. Benoit (France)

Colleen was a member of the 2012 national B Team after she attended FTC in 2011-2012. She played her university career at Queen's University.  In her final year at Queen's, she was an OUA (Ontario University Athletics) first team All-Star.  Colleen represented Canada on the NORCECA Pro Beach Volleyball Tour in 2010.  


Tricia Mayba: Winnipeg, MB
Position: Left Side
Previous Club Team: PTPS Pila (Poland)

Tricia was first selected to Team Canada in 2010.  In 2011 she traveled to both the FISU Games (in China) and the Pan Am Games (in Mexico).  She played her university career at the University of Manitoba from 2007-2012.  The Bison made the CIS National final in 2010 and she was an All-Star in the event.  She was also an Academic All-Canadian numerous times throughout her CIS career.  

 
Kaiva Mateus: Montreal, QC
Position: Middle Blocker
Previous club team: McGill University 

Kaiva graduated in 2012 from McGill University.  In her final year, the McGill Martlets earned a bronze medal in the CIS Championship.  Individually in 2012, Kaiva was a conference All-Star, named to the First All-Canadian Team, was the McGill University MVP, was nominated for the Female Athlete of the Year for all McGill sports and a nominee for the Thérese Quigley Citizenship Award.  Kaiva was in the FTC last year, and hopes to obtain a professional contract in Europe.  

 

Alison Loeppky: Winnipeg, MB
Position: Middle
Previous Club Team: Jacksonville University

Alison spent four years in the NCAA at Jacksonville University.  She played three of those years on the indoor team and her last year on the beach team.  She was placed on the all-freshmen team and earned academic accolades.  She played on the Manitoba provincial team for four years, which included earning a gold medal on the Canada Summer Games team in 2009.  Her goal is to play professionally.  


Andrea Price: Drumheller, AB
Position: Left Side
Previous Club Team: University of Calgary

Andrea began her university career at Mount Royal University (MRU) where she played in the CCAA from 2008-2011.  While playing there, she was the MRU MVP from 2009-2011, the ACAC Female Athlete of the Year, as well as the MRU Female Athlete of the Year in 2010-2011, the CCAA National Tournament MVP in 2011, and a CCAA All-Canadian in 2011.  She then moved into the CIS playing for the University of Calgary and graduated in 2013. 

Please note, Marie-Pier Murray Methot was in FTC, but she obtained a contract in Germany with the club team SC Potsdam.
