Team Canada Women's Full-Time Training Centre (FTC) - University of Manitoba, Winnipeg
The purpose of FTC is to enhance the long-term objective of identifying, selecting and developing a group of athletes with ability or potential for qualifying for the 2016 Olympics, the 2020 Olympics as well as performing well in the 2013-2016 quadrennial. The goal for FTC is to have a minimum of 8-10 identified athletes participating in FTC while it is in place. The full-time training centre focuses on graduated CIS/CCAA athletes to prepare them for international level of training and eventually competition.
In addition to guidance from Head Coach Arnd Ludwig (Lupo), athletes receive services from the Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba, which include Sport Scientist Daryl Hurrie, Strength & Conditionning Coach Kyle Turcotte, Sport Psychologist Adrienne Leslie-Toogood and Nutritionist, Jorie Janzen.
In addition to volleyball sessions, conditioning and weight training, the athletes will be venturing out into the community helping out with various events. These events include reading to elementary schools, running clinics for local volleyball clubs, helping out with local fundraisers, and more to come!
Since the Rio 2016 Olympic Qualifier is in January, the FTC currently has 7 A team athletes training together to prepare for this extremely important event. The other A team athletes are playing professionally in Europe and will join this group in late December to prepare all together.
