Women's 2011 FISU Team Open Identification Camp Kicks Off In MontrealMontreal, QC - This weekend, March 18-20, Volleyball Canada will see it's first group of potential athletes for the 2011 season in Montreal, QC for the first of two Women's FISU Open Identification Camps. These camps are targeting university and college athletes who are eligible to represent Canada on the Women's National FISU/B Team at the 2011 FISU Games in Shenzhen, China from August 14-21.
The camp attracted more athletes than expected. 50 athletes will be in attendance this weekend at the Centre culturel et sportif Regina-Assumpta in Montreal. The schedule is as follows:
Friday, March 18th
12pm-3pm: Athletes arrive
6pm-9pm: Session #1
Saturday, March 19th
9am-12pm: Session #2
3pm-6pm: Session #3
Sunday, March 20th
8:30am-12pm: Session #4
Volleyball Canada will be hosting a second FISU Open Identification Camp in Calgary, AB the following weekend, March 25-27. 31 athletes have been confirmed for this camp. The camp will be held at Edge Sport School. The schedule will mirror the schedule in Montreal.
Head Coach of the Women's National Team has this to say about the camps: "We are looking for new ways to improve our system that we use to identify athletes. It is very difficult to see all of the Canadian volleyball athletes. We are looking forward to these camp and hope to advance Volleyball Canada forward with these two camps."
