The Pan American Cup is an annual competition in which the world's highest ranked teams based out of the Caribbean and the North, Central and South American countries compete in. This tournament is a qualifier for the FIVB World Grand Prix (Women) and now World League Qualification (Men). The top 3 finishers of the Women's Pan Am Cup within the NORCECA division advance to the World Grand Prix, along with the top South American team.
This event is fairly new to the NORCECA calendar, with it's first appearance occurring in 2001 in Mexico for the Women, and in 2006 for the Men. The Canadian Men's team saw it's best results in 2008 and 2009, achieving 2nd place finishes. The Canadian Women's team saw it's best placing in 2001 and 2002 achieving 3rd place. In 2009 the women's team placed 7th in a 11-team tournament.
