Women’s Beach Duo have Strong Finish to 2013 FIVB Season

Canada’s beach pair of Jamie Lynn Broder and Kristina Valjas closed out their FIVB season with a third straight 9th place finish and look to keep that momentum going forward. The duo played a total of 12 FIVB Grand Slam and Open events in 2013, with four top 10 finishes. Broder, the 28 year old from Victoria, and Valjas, 26 from Toronto, have been playing together for two years now and their success is growing.

The pair played their final three tournaments at the Sao Paulo Grand Slam in Brazil, the Xiamen Grand Slam in China, and the Phuket Open in Thailand. They advanced to the second round of playoffs and placed ninth in all of these tournaments, their highest placement in any Grand Slam or Open event. They entered the final tournament in Phuket with the 12th seed thanks to their success in Brazil and China, but fell to the 13th seed Argentineans in two sets.

“Kristina and I are really proud of the way we wrapped up the end of the FIVB season with three 9th place finishes in a row. We were tested by the elements in China with extreme wind, and Thailand with extreme heat, but we worked together and found a way to fight through. We are excited to continue building on these results next year on tour.” said Broder of their 2013 season.

The pair may be done with FIVB competitions for this year, but there is still volleyball to be played. The Hilton Beach Volleyball Exhibition is taking place mid-November in Hawaii, and the NORCECA Finals get underway November 27th in Trinidad & Tobago. These will be the last two events of 2013 for the team of Broder and Valjas as they prepare themselves for 2014.
