Wins all around for Canadian men at world junior beach volleyball championships

 UMAG Croatia - Danny Demyanenko and Andrew Kocur (in photo), both of Toronto upset the tournament’s second seed and Aaron Nusbaum of Aurora, Ont., and Grant O'Gorman of Toronto also won their opening main draw match Thursday at the world junior beach volleyball championships

Demyanenko and Kocur, who won twice on Wednesday in qualifying to gain one of four available spots for the main draw, defeated second seeds Jenne Hinrichsen and Daniel Malescha of Germany 21-19, 21-19. Demyanenko and Kocur are seeded 23rd.

Nusbaum and O’Gorman, ninth at last year’s world junior and seeded eighth, beat Anton Artemchuk and Andriy Levchenko of Ukraine 21-12, 21-18.

Both Canadian pairs play their two final round robin matches on Friday. The top two teams in each of the six pools pool along with the best four third place teams advance to the single-elimination bracket phase that will begin on Saturday.

In women’s competition, Nova Bozinoski of Burlington, Ont., and Sydney Krizmanich of Carlisle, Ont., lost their two main draw matches on Thursday.
