Volleyball Canada Mourns the Loss of Stefan Savoie

Volleyball Canada is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Stefan Savoie this past weekend at the tender age of 21.

From Winnipeg, Manitoba, Stefan grew up playing and excelling in many sports, especially volleyball. In addition to playing for numerous club and provincial team programs in Manitoba, he also played at Thompson Rivers University after high school and was a member of the 2006 Youth and 2008 Canadian Junior National Teams. In 2009 Stefan also represented Manitoba in Beach Volleyball at the Canada Games in Prince Edward Island.

A celebration of Stefan's life will be held at the North Kildonan Mennonite Church at Springfield and Gateway Road in Winnipeg on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. The Savoie family has asked for those who were fortunate enough to play with Stefan, to please wear your team jersey in memory of him. A trust fund has been set up with the Winnipeg Police Credit Union for a future scholarship fund with the Manitoba Volleyball Association.

Volleyball Canada would like to express our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and loved ones.
