Two Canadian pairs advance to women’s main draw at beach volleyball World Tour
KLAGENFURT, Austria – Heather Bansley and Liz Maloney of Toronto as well as Kacie MacTavish of Sharon, Ont., and Julie Rodrigue of Quebec City advanced to the main draw on Tuesday at a stop in the FIVB beach volleyball World Tour.
Both squads posted two wins in Tuesday’s qualifying. The victories continued an impressive string of success for Bansley and Maloney who were seventh two weeks ago at the stop in Quebec City and ninth last week in Poland.
MacTavish and Rodrigue qualified for a main draw for the first time as a pair. Among their two wins Tuesday was one over compatriots Annie Martin of Sherbrooke, Que., and Marie-Andrée Lessard of Ville LaSalle, Que.
‘’We’ve worked really hard since the start of the season,’’ said Rodrigue.
Men’s qualifying gets underway Wednesday. Canadian teams entered are Christian Redmann of Toronto and Ben Saxton of Calgary as well as Josh Binstock and Richard Van Huizen both of Toronto.For more information: www.volleyball.ca and www.fivb.org
