Three Canadian teams in action this weekend at beach volleyball NORCECA stop

 CHULA VISTA, California (September 28,2012)– Three Canadian teams are in action at the eighth stop on the NORCECA (North and Central America and Caribbean) beach volleyball circuit to be held this Friday to Sunday (September 27-29).

Canada has two entries in men’s play.  Chaim Schalk of Red Deer, Alta., and Ben Saxton of Calgary as well as Cameron Wheelan of Barrie, Ont.,  and Michael Plantiga of Langley, B.C. 

Schalk and Saxton were both medallists at last month’s nationals but with different partner.  Schalk took the silver with Matt Zbysewski while Saxton earned bronze with Christian Redmann.  Saxton and Redmann also came within one match of making the Olympics losing the deciding match at trials to Josh Binstock and Martin Reader.

On the women’s side, Canada is represented by Jamie Broder of Victoria and Kristina Valjas of Toronto (in photo) who won the bronze medal at the Canadian championships.

The competition runs until Sunday.
