Redmann and Saxton don’t advance to playoff at World Tour stop

 MOSCOW – (June 10, 2012) Christian Redmann of Toronto and Ben Saxton of Calgary lost their third round robin match on Sunday and won’t advance to the playoff round at a stop on the FIVB World Tour beach volleyball circuit.

Redmann and Saxton, who qualified for a second straight main draw on the circuit, lost to 21st seed Santos Barbosa and Rhooney de Oliveira Ferramenta of Brazil 23-21, 21-18.  The Canadians finish 0-3 in their pool.

Canadian teams are currently battling for spots for Continental Cup Olympic qualifier June 21-23 in Mexico.  The selection will be determined following the next week’s World Tour stop in Rome.

Strong Canadian showing on NORCECA circuit

At a NORCECA (North and Central America and Carribean) beach volleyball event in Varadero, Cuba, Nicholas Del Bianco and Benjamin Chow, both of Surrey, B.C., are headed to the semifinals in men’s competition following Saturday’s action.

The Canadians have four wins and a loss in tournament play entering their final four match against Karel Piña and Sergio Gonzalez of Cuba on Sunday.  The final will also be held later Sunday.
