Redmann and Saxton complete strong run at World Tour

BERLIN – (July 12, 2012) Christian Redmann of Toronto and Ben Saxton of Calgary dusted off last week’s Olympic disappointment and produced a solid showing at the World Tour beach volleyball stop in Berlin.

Redmann and Saxton, who lost in the Olympic qualifying final last Saturday, posted two wins in qualifying and went 2-1 in round robin play before finally being eliminated by Jon Stiekema and Christiaan Varenhorst of the Netherlands in the first playoff round Thursday.

In the women’s main draw, Heather Bansley and Liz Maloney of Toronto lost their opening two round robin matches.  They will face Jolien Sinnema and Marloes Wesselink, also winless after two matches, on Friday with a berth in the playoff round on the line.

In qualifying, Julie Rodrigue of Quebec City and Kacie MacTavish of Sharon, Ont., won their first match then lost their second and did not advance to the main draw.  Bansley and Maloney had a bye to the main draw.
