Open 2012 - Video Contest


Volleyball Canada is pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 Canadian Open Video Contest.


 
Over 25 entries were submitted into the first ever Canadian Open video contest.  The Volleyball Canada judge panel narrowed down the top five (5) finalists and turned the voting back to the volleyball community to select the winner!
After several thousand votes, the winners are:
 
1. Vipères Laurentides 17U Girls
(Winners of the free entry to the 2012 Canadian Open and event T-shirts)
 
2. KW Predators Genesis 17U Boys
(Winners of team sweatshirts)
 
3. Forest City Green 15U Girls
(Winners of a set of 12 Tachikara volleyballs)

 Information ont he Contest (Contest ended May 1st 2012)


This year the Canadian Open Championships are different, so why not do things a little differently! Teams across the country will have the chance to win their way into the 2012 Canadian Open.  A video contest will take place and allow one team to play for FREE! Other prizes will be awarded to the second and third place teams.

How to participate

Teams interested in winning a free entry to the 2012 National Championships should participate in this contest. Videos must be shot and edited in completion by the team members and its supporters. 
 
All videos must contain the following:
 
TEAM INFO:
          a. Name of volleyball team
          b. Category in which the team will participate in the 2012 National Championships 
          c. Province and city of club
MOTIVATION
          d. Why is your team looking forward to participating in the 2012 Canadian Open
          e. Why does your team deserve to win free entry into this event
GENERAL 
          f. Demonstration of team spirit
          g. Showcase at least six (6) team members
          h. High quality image 
          i. Submissions will be judged by Volleyball Canada on style, creativity, uniqueness, relevance to topic and respect.
 
 

How to submit your video

  • Once the video is complete (shot and edited), teams must name their video with their team name and category (ex: Team Super Awsome_16U_Girls).  The Facebook website will be enabled on the first day of video submission, Monday, February 27th
  • Teams must registrer on the contest website (link to be published on February 27th) 
  • Teams must post (upload) their video on the Volleyball Canada Facebook page, naming it as described above.
     
  • Teams that make the top 5 should encourage their family, friends and surroundings to vote for their video on the Facebook fan page by liking it.

 

Video Contest Timeline

  • Information about video contest launch:        Tuesday, January 17th, 2012
  • Video submission start date:                          Monday, February 27th, 2012
  • Last day for submission of videos:                  Monday, April 2nd, 2012
  • Top 5 finalists announced and posted:           Monday, April 9th, 2012
  • Final day to like videos:                                  Monday, April 30th, 2012
  • Contest winners announced:                         Tuesday, May 1st, 2012
 

Basic rules

  • Videos have to be between 2 and 4 minutes (not more than 4 minutes)
  • Contesting teams must be registered to participate in the 2012 National Championships.
  • Deadline for submissions is 12:00pm (noon) EST, April 2nd , 2012
Volleyball Canada will determine the top 5 videos according to the evaluation grid (see below). The TOP 3 finishers and winners of prizes will be determined by the audience and measured by the amount of “like” on the Facebook page.
 
 

Prizes 

1st place:
Free entry at the 2012 National Championships (maximum value of $1 000) and event t-shirts for all team members. (Maximum of 15 players and 4 team staff)
 
 
2nd place:
Volleyball Canada sweatshirts provided by Canuck Stuff. (max of 15 players and 4 team staff)
 
3rd place:
A set of 12 Tachikara balls and 2 ball bags, provided by Tachikara

 
The team contacts from the winning teams will be contacted via Volleyball Canada’s NRS. Please make sure that all of your information is up to date.
 
 

Judge's Evaluation Grid

Team Spirit  (20 points)
Show that you are united and willing to work as a team

Style  (15 points)
Style refers to the delivery of your message and the way you present your ideas
 
Creativity / Uniqueness (20 points)
The video should demonstrate some creativity and be original
 
Relevance  (15 points)
Your team must clearly outline why you are excited for the 2012 Open and why your deserve to win this contest
 
Respect of contest rules  (15 points)
Make sure to respect all the rules !
 
Quality  (15 points)
Quality refers to the video quality and the acting quality of the participating members

Rules and regulations

Contest period
Contest will open on February 27th, 2012 and will close on April 2nd, 2012 at noon, EST. No further entries will be accepted after the closing deadline. The top 5 videos will be announced on April 9th, 2012. The three contest winners will be announced May 1st, 2012 and their videos will be posted on the Volleyball Canada website.

Contest Participation
By entering this Contest, you and your team agree to be bound by these Contest rules. In order to enter the Contest, and qualify for a chance to win, you and your team must be the age of majority in the province in which you reside or provided consent by a parent/ legal guardian.  
 
Eligibility 
This Contest is open to all teams participating in the 2012 Canadian Open. 
 
 
Video requirements
Videos must be between 2 and 4 minutes (not to exceed 4 minutes). Only one submission per team will be considered and will be deemed to be the first video submitted by the team. Videos must be in English or French. Submission must adhere to the theme of the 2012 Canadian Open.

Consent to Use Personal Information 
By entering the 2012 Canadian Open Video Contest (the “Contest”) electronically and voluntarily providing your personal information (including, but not limited to e-mail address, first name, last name, city, phone number and image) (collectively “Registrant Information”) you and/or your parent/guardian consent to Volleyball Canada’s collection and use of the Registrant Information to administer this Contest. 
 
 
Releases and consents
By entering the contest, each entrant – with the consent of a parent or guardian (for contestants under the age of majority) – consents and agree:

  • That his/her name, photograph, voice and/or image will be used in any and all forms of media, without further compensation by Volleyball Canada and waives all rights (including moral rights) with respect to printed, use, reproduction, publication, transmission, broadcast and other forms of publicity. 
  • To Volleyball Canada, the right to use, without payment of any fee, charge or compensation of any kind, including royalties, any and all images and information about myself.
  • To forever release and discharge Volleyball Canada, their representatives, assigns, employees, agents and any person acting under their authority of any claims of any kind arising out or in connection with the use of my image or the video submitted, including, without limitation, any and all claims of privacy, the collection, use, disclosure, publication, sale, distortion, passing off, misappropriation of personality and/or libel. 
  
Original work
Videos should contain nothing illegal, lewd or loathsome. Any video with swear words will be immediately unpublished and eliminated.  Submissions must meet all guidelines and criteria imposed by Facebook. Failure to adhere to regulations could result in disqualification.
 
No responsibility
Volleyball Canada reserves the right to change or modify contest rules, dates, judging panel and criteria at any time, without notice. Volleyball Canada is in no way responsible for contestant exposure to other Facebook content. Any entries that are lost, late, damaged or unable to be viewed due to technical error will be void. 
 
Winning teams
The team winning the free entry will get a full reimbursement of their entry fee. Teams finishing second and third will get their prizes on site of the competition. Please note that if only teams that have registered for the 2012 Canadian Open are eligible to win. 

General
Volleyball Canada will not be responsible or bear any liability for: (i) late-received, lost, unintelligible/illegible, incomplete, or misdirected entries/videos; (ii) entries which fail to comply with these Contest rules; and (iii) any failure of the Volleyball Canada and/or 2012 Canadian Open website or facebook pages during the Contest, all of which may affect an entrant’s ability to participate in the Contest.  
 
Volleyball Canada reserves the right to cancel or suspend any portion of the Contest should a virus, bug or other cause beyond the reasonable control of Volleyball Canada corrupt the security or proper administration of the Contest. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should such an attempt be made, Volleyball Canada reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.
 
All entries are subject to verification by Volleyball Canada and Volleyball Canada reserves the right to cancel and revoke any entries if they are found to be improper or if the entrant is subsequently found not to be eligible pursuant to these Contest rules.
 
In the event of unavailability of a stated prize (or any portion thereof), Volleyball Canada, in their sole discretion, reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value.  
 
Prizes are not transferable, not refundable, not redeemable for cash, will not be extended under any circumstances and must be accepted as offered.  Any unused portions of a prize will be forfeited and will have no cash value.
 
By participating in this Contest, entrants agree to be bound by these Contest rules and the decisions of Volleyball Canada in awarding the prizes, which decisions will be final and binding upon all entrants. Failure to comply with these rules may void the entrant’s rights vis a vis any prize.
 
The Contest will be governed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada.
