One down, two to go: Faucher’s Estonian team aims for championships

OTTAWA (January 7, 2013) – Olivier Faucher has enjoyed his first year experience with the Parnu Volleyball Club in the Estonian professional league and that may be in part because the team is vying for an ambitious three titles this season.

“Our goal is to win the Estonia Cup, Schenker League and the Estonian Championships,” said Faucher 28, a national team member since 2009.  “We’ve just won the Estonia Cup now there are two more titles to go.”

The Schenker League regroups the top teams from Estonia and Latvia and runs from October to March.  The Estonian Championships start after the Schenker League and run from mid-March to mid-April.

Parnu completed the Christmas break in first spot in the 10-team Schenker League standings with 14 wins and three losses.  Faucher has compiled 53 points including 25 on blocks

His top match was a seven point game and he’s added two six-point matches as well.  He earned five blocks in a match on December 17.

“It’s been a very enriching experience so far,” said Faucher, a five-year member of the Universite Laval Rouge et Or who has also played pro in Portugal.  “It’s a small country so everything is close by.  The weather is similar to Canada  and the people here speak English which allows me to easily communicate with my teammates and personel.”

Faucher’s next match is January 12.
