Olympic Gold Medallist Julius Brink to Compete at SandJam Halifax

(HALIFAX, August 6, 2013): Halifax will welcome the 2012 London Olympic Beach Volleyball Men’s Gold Medallist Julius Brink to SandJam Halifax. The German player will compete for the Canada Cup from August 15-18 on the Halifax waterfront along with new partner Sebastian Fuchs.
Brink, with former partner Jonas Reckermann, defeated Brazil’s Alison Cerutti and Emanuel Rego in three sets to win the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympic games, making Germany the first European country to win gold in Olympic Beach Volleyball. The pair, who qualified as the third seed for the Olympics, has also won four FIVB competitions with three consecutive Grand Slams, and the German Masters of the CEV European Championship Tour. In 2009, Brink received the FIVB Team of the Year and Tour Champion awards. His sponsors include Red Bull, Oakley, Ultrasun and Camp David.
SandJam Halifax is also excited to announce that the men’s and women’s finals of this year’s tournament will be broadcast for the first time on TSN.  The network will broadcast each final across Canada as a thirty-minute special segment, showcasing the outstanding talent of these athletes and the beauty of our unique waterfront stadium
