Road to London
Please find below the three different pathways to qualify for the beach volleyball tournament of the 2012 Olympic Games in London/UK.
1. FIVB World Ranking
Any Canadian beach volleyball team(s) that earn one of the 16 available berths through the World Ranking (The best 12 results as a team on the FIVB World Tour and FIVB World Championships between January 1, 2011 and June 17, 2012 - Maximum two teams per country per gender) will be nominated by Volleyball Canada as the team(s) to represent Canada at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Please find here the current rankings for female and male teams.
2. NORCECA Continental Beach Volleyball Cup
In either gender, should Canada not achieve two 2012 Olympic berths through the World Ranking then the top two Canadian teams with the best four (4) FIVB World Tour results in 2012 (between January 1, 2012 and June 17, 2012) will be nominated by Volleyball Canada to represent Canada at both the NORCECA Continental Beach Volleyball Cup Final Olympic Qualification Tournament and the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Olympic Qualification Tournament (The World Cup event is only applicable if Canada places either 2nd or 3rd at the NORCECA Continental Beach Volleyball Cup Final Olympic Qualification Tournament). Note: Players that have qualified through the "World Ranking" (point 1 above`) are not eligible to play in either the NORCECA Continental Beach Volleyball Cup Final Olympic Qualification Tournament or the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Olympic Qualification Tournament.
Please find here the recent information for the NORCECA Continental Beach Volleyball Cup.
3. FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup
Should Canada earn one berth for the 2012 Olympic games either through the NORCECA Continental Beach Volleyball Cup Final Olympic Qualification Tournament or through the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Olympic Qualification Tournament then Volleyball Canada will hold an 2012 Canadian Olympic Trials Tournament immediately following the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Olympic Qualification Tournament to determine which team will represent Canada at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Only teams that have represented Canada in a NORCECA Continental Beach Volleyball Cup Tournament (Either in 2011 or 2012) are eligible to participate in this 2012 Canadian Olympic Trials Tournament. Since Canadian teams will have participated in two NORCECA Continental Cup Tournaments (one in 2011 and one in 2012) and since two Canadian teams participate in each event, the maximum number of teams per gender that will participate in the 2012 Canadian Olympic Trials Tournament is four and the minimum number is teams per gender that will participate in the 2012 Canadian Olympic Trials Tournament is two.
