Nipissing and Fraser Valley win CCAA volleyball titles

 OTTAWA (March 10, 2013) The Nipissing Lakers of North Bay, Ont. upset the Red Deer Kings of Red Deer, Alta. in three straight sets to take home gold from the 2013 Ironwood Wealth Management Group CCAA Men's Volleyball National Championship. 

It's the second year in a row an OCAA team has won the title; the Humber Hawks of Etobicoke, Ont. won in 2012. 

The Nipissing Lakers were seeded third going in to the CCAA national championship tournament, overcoming the Outaouais Griffons in straight sets in the opening round, then dropping a single set to host team the Niagara Knights in the semi-final.

The Fraser Valley Cascades of Abbotsford, B.C. overcame the Lakeland Rustlers of Lloydminster, Alta. in front of a hometown crowd to win the 2013 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship presented by Viterra. 

The Fraser Valley Cascades won in three straight sets, earning the PACWEST conference their fifth national title in six years. 

The Fraser Valley Cascades were allotted the first seed in the 8-team CCAA national championship tournament, besting the MSVU Mystics and the Garneau Elans on their way to the gold medal game.
