NCAA Notes: Hamilton’s Dominic DeWaele named Conference player of the week
Loyola University Chicago sophomore Dominic DeWaele of Hamilton has been named Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Offensive Player of the Week. Dewaele led the No. 12 Ramblers to back-to-back wins over MIVA newcomer Grand Canyon last week to earn his first weekly honor.
DeWaele posted 24 kills, five digs and a .395 hitting percentage to lead the Ramblers to a 3-1 win over Grand Canyon on Thursday (April 1). He followed with 19 kills, a career-high seven digs and a .433 hitting percentage in the Ramblers' 3-0 win over the Antelopes on Friday (April 2) to extend his double-digit kill streak to seven matches. For the week, Dewaele averaged 6.14 kills per set, along with a .411 hitting percentage.
Toronto’s Erik Kuld shines in Harvard’s struggles
Toronto’s Erik Kuld continues to be a shining light in an other wise rough season for the Harvard University Crimson Tide, although the tide has been turning of late for Harvard.
Kuld continued to provide consistent offense for Harvard, with 27 kills and a match-high 14 digs in a recent 30-20, 30-25, 27-30, 30-22 victory over Newbury College. It was Harvard’s third consecutive win and it bettered its record to 5-12
Steven Hunt and his Hawaii teammates playoff bound
The University of Hawaii’s men’s volleyball team, which includes Toronto’s Steven Hunt, clinched a spot into the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation playoffs with a 30-28, 30-28, 30-27 victory over UC San Diego Saturday.
Hunt played in the first two sets of that match and registered three kills after earning 10 kills four digs and three blocks the previous evenng in a four-set victory over the same San Diego team.
