MTS Super Spike celebrates 10th anniversary July 15-16

Winnipeg – The Team Canada Women’s Volleyball Centre helped announce today that the popular ‘MTS Super-Spike presented by Bud Light’, will be taking place July 15 & 16 at Maple Grove Rugby Park celebrating it’s ten year anniversary.  ‘MTS Super-Spike Ten’, which combines Manitoba’s largest outdoor/beach volleyball tournament with a weekend long concert series set in a festival atmosphere, has raised over $300,000.00 to date in support of the National Women’s Volleyball Team.

To celebrate its tenth year anniversary, various celebrations and new initiatives for this year’s event were announced including:

-          Bringing back fan favourite Canadian Rock quartet ‘The Trews’ to headline this year’s concert series

-          Creating a new ‘masters’ division exclusively for 35 plus adults

-          Giving away an ‘all exclusive trip for two’ to a lucky Super-Spike registrant to see the UFC  in New Orleans this September for the Bud Light Battle of the Bayou

-          And most importantly of all, the building and addition of six new permanent beach volleyball courts that will have a long standing impact not only on the event, but for beach volleyball in Manitoba

Last year alone over 5000 people visited Super-Spike, where a record setting 217 teams took part.  This year plans are to reach a new record mark of 250 registered teams, and $75,000 raised in support of the Winnipeg based Women’s National Team.

“MTS Super-Spike has become a staple for Winnipeg summers as one of the best festival events hands down,” stated Event General Manager Greg Paseshnik who has been involved in helping organize all nine previous events.  “The weekend has consistently grown every single year since it started and there are no signs of slowing down.  Our plan for the tenth year anniversary is to make it the biggest and best one yet.  We hope anyone that has taken part in one of the previous nine years events will come out for this summer’s tenth anniversary and take part.”

“We would not be able to function and operate at the level we do each year without the funds generated from MTS Super-Spike,” added Team Canada Women’s Volleyball Centre Director of Operations John Blacher.  “The event has become everything we hoped and envisioned it would nine years ago, helping our National Women’s Team attain the level of support needed to continuously compete with the world’s best.”

Special thanks to new event title sponsor ‘MTS’, and presenting sponsor ‘Bud Light’ who have both signed multi year agreements as lead sponsors to help ensure Super-Spike will run for many years to come.

Public interested in registering for this year’s tenth anniversary event can do so by visiting  Early bird player registrations are only $45 per person through to July 1st, or weekend passes for non players can also be purchased in advance for only $20.
