2010 Junior Men's National Team Program

INTRODUCTION:
The purpose of the Junior National Team Program is to identify, select and train a group of young athletes who have future Senior National Team potential and offer them the opportunity to train and represent Canada in international competition at an earlier age. The intent of the program is to train for and compete in the 2010 Norceca Junior and in the 2011 World Championship.
ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY:
To be eligible for the 2010 Junior National Team Program all athletes must be born on or after January 1, 1991 and be Canadian citizens as validated by a Canadian passport.

ATHLETE IDENTIFICATION & SELECTION
1. Identification & Selection:
Athletes will be identified for the Junior Men's National Team through the NTCC event, scheduled for July 20-25, in Toronto. Final selection of the top 12 to 14 athletes will be made at the conclusion of this event.
These top athletes as identified by the national selection committee will then continue training at the Team Canada Volleyball Centre in Gatineau from July 26 through August 14th.
Athletes who wish to ensure they are considered for the 2010 Junior National Team must participate with their respective 19U provincial team at the NTCC.
PROGRAM GOALS & OBJECTIVES:
1. To identify, select and provide eligible Junior athletes who possess the potential for future involvement with the Senior National Team with training and an opportunity to represent Canada in international competition.
2. The performance objective for the team is a top 3 finish in the 2010 Junior Norceca Championship.
PROGRAM PLAN:
Upon selection, all athletes will be required to train at the Team Canada Volleyball Centre in Gatineau with the Junior National Team until the Junior Norceca Championship. All athletes will be nominated for Sport Canada carding for a minimum of 3 months at $900 / month, as well as tuition support.
Athletes selected to the team are responsible for a $1,500 fundraising obligation. This may be raised through the Volleyball Canada ‘Adopt a Program’ fundraising program. All money that is generated from this fundraising will be used to offset training and competition costs for the Junior National Team program. Further information on this program will be provided at a later date.
Lodging and a meal plan will be provided to each athlete during the training period.

July 26 - August 14 Training period
August 14-22 Junior Norceca Championship (Gatineau, QC)
