2010 Indoor Men's National FISU/'B' Team

INTRODUCTION:

The purpose of the National B/FISU Team is to identify, select and train a group of athletes who have potential or demonstrated international skill and experience to represent Canada at the elite level. The goal of the B/FISU Team is a top 10 finish at the 2011 World Universiade (FISU) Games.
 

ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for the 2010 B/FISU National Team all athletes must be Canadian citizens as validated by a Canadian passport. The Universiade Games are open to competitors between the ages of 17 and 28 in the year of the games, who are full-time post secondary students (University, college, CEGEP) or have graduated from a post-secondary institution within the previous year of the event.

ATHLETE IDENTIFICATION & SELECTION:

1. Identification
Athletes will initially be identified for the Men's National Team through observation by National Team Staff and High Performance Committee members throughout the club, college, university and professional seasons.

2. Selection Camp
Volleyball Canada will publish a list of invited athletes by March 22. Anyone not on the list of invited athletes may attend the camp by filling out and returning the application form. The camp is OPEN to anyone, however Volleyball Canada cannot accommodate more than 60 athletes and reserves the right to decline an application if the number of registered athletes is greater than 60.

Following this camp, successful athletes will be asked to join the A or the B team. Successful athletes will be nominated for Sport Canada carding and will also receive tuition support (when applicable). Level and amount of carding will be based on program (A or B) and length of commitment.

Registration fee for this camp is $400. Lodging, a meal plan and internal transportation will be provided to each athlete. Travel to the training site (Gatineau) is at the expense of the athlete.

PROGRAM GOALS & OBJECTIVES:

1. To identify, select and train athletes who possess the ability or potential necessary to support Canada’s performance at the international level.

2. The performance objective for the B/FISU Team is for a top 10 finish at the 2011 Universiade (FISU) Games

May 9 Arrival to Camp

May 9-14  Selection Camp (Gatineau)

May 14 Departure for unsuccessful athletes 

May-June  Training Period

Please note that there is currently NO COMPETITION planned for the B team in 2010
