Martin and Lessard complete Olympic beach volleyball tournament

Binstock and Reader to play tonight at 11 p.m. London time

LONDON (August 2, 2012) – Annie Martin and Marie-Andrée Lessard’s 0-3 Olympic record doesn’t reflect how well they played this week in beach volleyball including Thursday’s 21-12, 23-25, 15-10 loss to Greta Cicolari and Marta Menegatti of Italy.

With the loss, Martin and Lessard place fourth in their pool and receive a 25^th place overall ranking at the Games. All three of their matches went the distance and lasted more than 50 minutes in length including a 70-minute marathon against the Russians on Tuesday night.

The Italians finish at 3-0 and advance to the round of 16.

Meanwhile Josh Binstock of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Martin Reader of Comox, B.C., will play their wildcard playoff match at 11 p.m. London time or 5 p.m. EDT in Canada. The identity of their opponent won’t likely be finalized until the men’s preliminary round is completed this evening.

‘’Opponent unknown but our goal is clear,’’ tweeted Binstock at 1:43 p.m. London time.
