INTRODUCTION:

The purpose of the Senior Men’s National Team Program is to identify, select and train a group of athletes who have potential, and demonstrated international skill and experience to represent Canada at the elite level. Last year's goal for the Senior Men’s team was qualification for the 2010 FIVB World Championship, which was achieved by a great win in Mexico this past August. This year's goal is to finish top 10 at the 2010 World Championship in Italy.

The intention is to select up to 16 athletes to train in the Team Canada Volleyball Centre Gatineau over the summer, comprised of a combination of young veterans and new athletes possessing potential to lead Canada in the 2010 World Championships and a berth to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England, as well as longer term success for 2013-2016 quadrennial.

Plans for a Full-Time Training Centre are again being made for the fall and winter of 2010/11. The goal would be to have a minimum of 8-10 identified athletes in place for this extended training period. The Full-Time Training Centre focuses on graduated CIS / CCAA athletes to prepare them for international level of training and eventually, competition.

ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for the 2010 Senior National Team Program all athletes must be Canadian citizens as validated by a Canadian passport.

COACHING STAFF:
