Heather Bansley and Elizabeth Maloney one win short of main draw at beach volleyball World Tour
MARSEILLES, France – Heather Bansley and Elizabeth Maloney of Toronto made their season debut on the World Tour beach volleyball circuit on Tuesday and just fell one win short of reaching the main draw in Tuesday’s qualifying rounds.
Bansley and Maloney, gold medallists last weekend at a stop on the NORCECA (North and Central America) circuit, opened the qualifier with two victories but lost the third match in a bid to grab one of eight available spots for the main draw. All three matches were on Tuesday.
Marie-Andrée Lessard of Ville LaSalle, Que., and Annie Martin of Sherbrooke are pre-qualified for the main draw and open on Wednesday.
Men’s competition starts Wednesday with the qualifying tournament. The Canadian entries for the qualifier are Martin Reader of Comox, B.C., and Chaim Schalk of Red Deer, Alta., as well as Ben Saxton of Calgary and Steve Marshall of Abbotsford, B.C.
Christian Redmann and Richard Van Huizen of Toronto are pre-qualified for the main draw which starts Thursday.
