FTC Beach Train to Compete Group

Athletes training in this practice group include athletes that are preparing to represent Canada in the U19 and U21 World Championships, Universiade, FISU Games, NORCECA events, and FIVB World Tour events. Those training in this group include Developmental National Team athletes that have made the fulltime commitment to year round beach volleyball training in order to be fully prepared for an international career as a professional beach athlete with objectives for an Olympic medal in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, Rio De Janeiro.

Training Program:
  • Year round daily training.
  • Summer In Season: 4-5 days per week at Ashbridges Bay, Toronto, Ontario
  • Off Season: 5-6 days per week at the Full Time Centre, Downsview Park, Toronto, Ontario
  • Training provided by Full Time Centre coaches and National Team coaches
  • Coaching support during OVA Tour, Provincials, Nationals, & highlight competitions.
  • Up to 5 days of Strength & Conditioning per week
  • Weekly Yoga (TBC)
  • Coaches provide team specific competition and preparation plans
  • Onsite athletic therapy
  • Ontario identified athletes are also eligible for sports medicine coverage off site (select clinics)
  • National Team & Ontario High Performance Sport Initiative (OHPSI) athletes benefit from sport science support from Canadian Sports Centre Ontario

Those athletes interested in being identified as a FullTime Training Centre Beach athlete can be identified at FTC selection camps if still applicable, or athletes can fill out the following form and send to National Team Beach Coordinator Marc Stromme at mstromme@volleyball.ca for further instructions. There is no deadline for the initial application; athletes for this group are identified on an ongoing basis. Athletes who are entering beach from indoor with limited beach experience are also encouraged to apply.
