Ed Drakich named Volleyball Canada’s Beach High Performance Director

OTTAWA - Volleyball Canada is pleased to announce the nomination of Mr. Ed Drakich as Beach High Performance Director, effective immediately.

This is Ed's third tenure with Volleyball Canada. He was VC's Beach Technical Director in 1994 and the Technical Director between 2004 and 2007, during which time he also served as the Beach High Performance Director from 2005 to 2007.

Ed's experience in volleyball spans over more than 3 decades. As a player in both Indoor and Beach volleyball, he represented Canada internationally in over 300 matches and participated in the Beach volleyball competition at the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta.

Ed is currently the Head Coach of the Men's Varsity team at the University of Toronto. In addition to coaching university, college and club volleyball, Ed has coached some of Canada’s finest beach volleyball players. Ed has a diploma in High Performance Coaching from the National Coaching Institute Ontario and is a fully certified NCCP Level 4 volleyball coach and a Level 3 beach volleyball coach.

Ed also has extensive experience as an administrator. Besides his former positions as a staff member with Volleyball Canada and the Ontario Volleyball Association, he has been an FIVB Technical supervisor for numerous Beach volleyball events since 1996. He was the Tournament Director at the Montreal Open in 2002 and at the Toronto Open in 1998, 1999 and 2000. He was also the Competition Director at the FIVB World Tour event in Montreal in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and has recently been named to the same position for the 2011 FIVB World Tour event in Quebec City coming up this July.
