Mount Royal University Cougars Win Gold in CCAA Women's Volleyball
 

March 13, 2011 - The Mount Royal University Cougars of Calgary, Alta. have been crowned national champions at the CCAA Women's Volleyball Championships. The Cougars defeated the Vancouver Island University Mariners in the gold-medal match after an agonizingly close game that finished 3-2.

 

After trading points back and forth throughout three close sets, the VIU Mariners were ahead 2-1 and serving for match point. The ensuing play had the team celebrating only to have the call overruled by the head referee. Mount Royal fought back to win the set and tie the game. Both teams fought hard in the fifth set, with the Cougars ultimately clinching the winning point.
