Career-high 13th place finish for Redmann and Saxton

PRAGUE (May 25, 2012) – Christian Redmann of Toronto and Ben Saxton of Calgary (at right in photo) scored another upset and finished a career-high 13th on Friday at the fifth stop on the FIVB World Tour circuit in beach volleyball.

After a win and a loss in Thursday’s main draw in the double elimination tournament, the Canadians surprised 11th seeds Jonathan Erdmann and Kay Matysik of Germany in Friday’s morning match 23-25, 21-19, 16-14 in 58 minutes.  The Germans had posted two top-five finishes this season on the circuit.

A few hours later after that big, Redmann and Saxton fell to 14th seeds Emiel Boersma and Daan Spijkers of the Netherlands 21-16, 21-18.

With the 13th place finish, Redmann and Saxton, in their second season together, remain the top-ranked Canadian pair on the Tour.  The top-two Canadian teams qualify for the next month’s Continental Cup Olympic qualifier in Mexico.
