Canadians eliminated in quarterfinals at NORCECA beach volleyball tournament

SANTO DOMINGO – All three Canadian teams still in contention at the third stop on the NORCECA beach volleyball circuit were eliminated in the quarterfinals on Sunday.

In women’s competition, Jamie Broder of Victoria and Eve Danserau of Montreal lost to Ashley Ivy and Lisa Rutledge of the U.S., 21-18, 21-18. The American pair went on to the final where it lost to compatriots Whitney Pavlik and Jenny Kropp

Canadian pair Jaclyne Jallos and Cindy Phillips were beaten by Martha Revuelta and Diana Estrada of Mexico 21-9, 21-16. The Mexican pair eventually took the bronze medal.

In men’s competition, Ryan Vanderburg of Toronto and Andrew Hinchey of London, Ont., lost their quarterfinal match Roberto Rodriguez and Christopher Underwood of Puerto Rico 21-16, 21-17. Rodriguez and Underwood went on to win the bronze.

In the final, Cuba’s Karel Pina and Javier Jimenez defeated Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen of Mexico 21-18, 21-13.
