Canadians eliminated at beach volleyball worlds
ROME – Christian Redmann of Toronto (in photo) and Ben Saxton of Calgary lost their opening playoff match at the FIVB world championships in beach volleyball on Friday.
Redmann and Saxton, who went 1-2 in the round robin this week, lost to Grzegorz Fijalek and Mariusz Prudel of Poland 21-18, 21-19 and do not advance.. The Canadians will be ranked 17th in their world championship debut.
Meanwhile in Seoul, Kacie MacTavish of Sharon, Ont, and Julie Rodrigue of Quebec City are still alive at the Seoul Challenger beach volleyball tournament after a busy day on Friday.
MacTavish and Rodrigue lost in the third round to the third-seeds from Germany but rebounded with a victory in the repechage to stay in medal contention.
Ashley Voth of Winnipeg and Jamie Broder of Victoria won their second repechage match then lost in the third round and were eliminated. They will place 13th.
