Canadians Bansley and Maloney place career-best seventh at Quebec Open Jeep

QUEBEC CITY- Heather Bansley and Liz Maloney of Toronto will earn a career best result on the FIVB World Tour beach volleyball circuit with a seventh place after losing their quarterfinal match on Saturday at the Quebec Open Jeep event.

Bansley and Maloney, who strung together three exciting wins on Friday to keep their medal hopes alive, fell to third seeds Maria Clara Salgado Rufino and Carolina Solberg Salgado of Brazil 21-17, 21-15 on centre court.

The Canadians will pocket $7,600 in prize money.

‘’It was a great tournament overall,’’ said Bansley. ‘’I was so proud of our play. Nothing beats playing on centre court, at home, in front of packed house.

On Saturday’s match Bansley said she and her partner learned lessons that will make them even better.

‘’Our inconsistency made the difference,’’ she told la Presse canadienne about Saturday’s match. ‘’The top-ranked teams don’t make very many errors and make you pay when you do. Our goal is to attain the same consistency as the world’s best teams.’’

This was the first World Tour stop in Canada since 2007. Tournament has been a huge success and the large and encouraging crowds seemed to inspire all the Canadian pairs who by far had their best tournament overall this season.

The next stop on the tour starts Tuesday in Stare Jablonki, Poland.
