Canadians Bansley and Maloney advance to main draw at beach volleyball World Tour

MOSCOW – Heather Bansley (in photo) and Liz Maloney of Toronto posted two victories in Tuesday’s qualifying to advance to the main draw at a stop on the FIVB World Tour circuit in beach volleyball.

Bansley and Maloney defeated Shino Tanaka and Sayaka Mizoe of Japan 28-26, 21-8 and Gioria Daniela and Giulia Momoli of Italy 21-14, 21-18.

‘’We qualified for our first main draw,’’ tweeted Bansley. ‘’Great solid playing today.’’

Marie-Andrée Lessard of Ville LaSalle, Que., and Annie Martin of Sherbrooke, Que., won their opening qualifying then lost the second and did not advance.  Julie Rodrigue of Quebec City and Kacie MacTavish of Sharon, Ont., lost their first match.

Men’s qualifying gets underway Wednesday.
