Canadian women’s junior volleyball team competes at USAV High Performance Championship

 WINNIPEG (July 25, 2012) – Canada’s national junior women’s volleyball team is currently competing at the USAV High Performance Championship tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.

The competition is the highlight event for the 14-member squad which was finalized on Sunday following the National Team Challenge Cup held in Winnipeg.

‘’We are very excited to welcome 14 new players to Team Canada following the NTCC competition,’’ said Canada’s head coach Scott Koskie of Winnipeg.

‘’This is a great opportunity for us to support the development of some of Canada's best young talent. We had some very difficult decisions selecting from over 150 athletes competing this past weekend and want to thank everyone for their efforts.’’

There are 18 teams at the Des Moines tournament including national entries from Chile, the Dominican Republic and New Zealand along with Canada. The other teams are from the U.S.

Canada is in a six-team pool which includes the Dominicans. The Canadians played a match Tuesday and will play two matches on both Wednesday and Thursday. The playoffs run until July 29.
