Canadian team selected for U21 men’s NORCECA Championships

OTTAWA (July 24, 2012) – Volleyball Canada announced today its national junior team team for the NORCECA U21 men’s volleyball championships set for August 27 to September 1 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The NORCECA (North America, Central American and Caribbean) event, which is held bi-annually, will qualify at least two teams from the confederation for the 2013 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship.

‘’We have a very talented team with great character,’’ said Canada’s head coach Dave Preston.  ‘’The selections were extremely tough because there are so many amazing athletes playing volleyball but I am confident in the young men selected to wear their first Team Canada uniform.

‘’We are committed to do everything we can to win the NORCECA championships on route to qualifying for the world juniors.’’

Canada hosted the previous U21 NORCECA event in 2010 and won the silver medal losing to the U.S., in the final.  The Canadians have won medals at five of the seven editions of the tournament including the last three.
