Canadian Paralympic Committee Launches First Contact Fund and Para-Equipment Fund Call for Applications

August 22, 2011

Today, the Canadian Paralympic Committee launched the next round of First Contact and Para-Equipment Fund applications!

Deadline for applications: Monday, September 19, 2011

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to apply for funds to aid in the creation or expansion of your parasport first contact program.  This is a great chance for organizations to move forward with programming for volleyball for athletes with a disability.

First Contact Fund

This granting process is intended to support the creation of a new program, or go towards the expansion of an existing successful initiative providing a positive introductory parasport experience.  Funds may be used towards enhancing program options, such as facility rental space, coaching, volunteer training and more

A successful parasport system begins with increased awareness and recruitment of participants at the grassroots parasport level; a sport cannot have a Podium full of athletes without a playground full of participants. In order to facilitate increased participation of Canadians with a disability at the ‘playground’ level, the CPC has the First Contact Fund.

The 2010-2011 Para-Equipment Fund (PEF) is a grassroots initiative that aims to assist local and provincial organizations in delivering first contact programming. It is designed to facilitate the participation of an increased number of people with a disability in Para-sport by expanding the availability of introductory-based equipment, particularly for first contact and equipment loan programs.

Grants are awarded to cover 50% of the total cost of the equipment per season (summer/winter), up to a maximum of $5,000 per applicant per season. The applicant is responsible for covering the other 50% of the total equipment costs. Applicants apply by filling out an application form and sending it to the CPC with several required documents such as quotes for equipment and letters of endorsement from national and provincial sport organizations.
