Canadian beach volleyball teams named for Pan Am Games
OTTAWA – Volleyball Canada announced today its men’s and women’s parings for the beach volleyball competition at the Pan Am Games set for next month in Guadalajara although the beach volleyball events will take place in Puerto Vallarta.
The women’s team is Heather Bansley of Watertown, Ont., and Elizabeth Maloney of Toronto and for the men it is Christian Redmann of Oro Station, Ont., and Ben Saxton of Balzac, Alta.
Bansley and Maloney have enjoyed a breakthrough 2011 season at the international level. They have moved up to 29th in the world rankings this season posting three top-10 finishes on the World Tour circuit and placing 17th at the world championships in Rome.
‘’ We are very excited to be selected to compete for Canada at the Pan Am Games,’’ said Maloney. ‘’There will be a lot of tough competition including Brazil, USA,Cuba and Mexico among others.’’
Redmann and Saxton have posted three top-20 finishes on the circuit including a 17th place at the worlds. They also won the gold medal at the Canadian championships last month
