Canada sweeps Costa Rica in sitting volleyball at Defi Sportif
MONTREAL – Canada completed a three-match sweep over Costa Rica in men’s sitting volleyball on Sunday with a 25-19, 25-20, 25-12 victory at the Défi Sportif multi sport event for athletes with a disability.
Both squads are currently preparing for the Para PanAm Games and Paralympic qualification in Guadalajara, Mexico this November.
Highlights for Canada included a five point run on the strong serving from Larry Matthews of St. Albert, Alta., who finished the first set with three aces; back to back kills and a service ace for Mikael Bartholdy of Calgary in the second set and great blocking by Eric Dechaine of St. Lina, Alta., including one for match point.
Canada also won matches held on Friday and Saturday. It is the first time sitting volleyball is on the Defi Sportif program.
