Canada to play for seventh place at Pan Am Cup after close loss to Argentina

 

ROSARITO, Mexico- For the second time this week, Canada’s women’s volleyball team lost to Argentina in five sets at the Pan Am Cup on Friday night. With the loss, the Canadians will play for seventh spot on Saturday afternoon against Brazil.

Argentina took the two hour long match 25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 23-25, 15-8 and will play for fifth spot. In round robin play, the Argentineans also defeated Canada in five.

Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ont., led the Canadians with 20 points, including five service aces, while Tasha Holness of Calgary added 13 and Jennifer Hinze of Vancouver 12. 

There were huge upsets in the semifinals on Friday. The Dominican Republic defeated the U.S., 22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-16 while Peru surprised Cuba 25-18, 25-23, 25-23.
