Canada to play for fifth place at men’s Pan Am Cup
SANTO DOMINGO (July 13, 2012) –Christopher Hoag of Sherbrooke, Que., scored 12 points to lead Canada to a 25-18, 28-26, 25-20 victory over Venezuela on Friday in a consolation semifinal at the Pan Am Cup men’s volleyball tournament.
With the victory Canada, represented by its National B team, will face Mexico in the fifth place match on Saturday. The Mexicans beat Trinidad and Tobago in the other consolation semifinal.
Dane Pischke of Winnipeg and Lucas Van Berkel of Edmonton also hit double digits in the scoring department with 11 and 10 points respectively.
“It was a tough match, especially because of Venezuela’s serves in the second set, but I think it was our best game,” said Canada’s captain Max Burt of Gander, N.L.
The championships semifinals are later Friday. Argentina faces Brazil and the U.S., meets the Dominican Republic.
