Canada keeps seventh in sight with win over El Salvador
GUATEMALA CITY – Canada, represented by the Calgary Dinos under-16 squad, remained in contention for a seventh place finish at the NORCECA Youth Girls Volleyball Championships on Friday with a 25-11, 25-15, 25-18 victory over El Salvador.
The win evened Canada’s overall record at the tournament to two wins and two losses. The Canadians went 1-2 in the round robin this week for third spot in their pool and are now playing in the consolation playoff round.
On Friday, Alexa Gray led the Canadian offence with 14 points including six service aces. Otto Kacey added 13, Carolyn O’Dwyer (photo) eight and Emmalyn Copping seven with two service aces.
Canada concludes its tournament Saturday in the match for seventh place against Trinidad and Tobago. The semifinal matches Saturday are the U.S., against Puerto Rico and Mexico vs the Dominican Republic.
