Canada finishes seventh at Pan Am Cup
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico – Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ont., produced a whopping 25 points and led Canada to a 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 victory over Peru for a seventh place finish at the Pan Am Cup women’s volleyball tournament.
Kyla Richey of Roberts Creek, B.C., added 12 points for the victors who finish the tournament with an overall 4-4 record. The Canadians were 2-3 in the round robin and 2-1 in the consolation playoff round.
“I’m proud with how we responded today,’’ said Pavan, second in tournament scoring entering the last day of competition. ‘’We did much better than yesterday and we’re leaving the tournament with a good feeling.”
Arnd Ludwig, Canadian coach indicated: “This was by far the best match we had in the Cup. Overall, though I expected much more of my team.”
The medal matches are later Saturday.
