Canada finishes eighth at Pan Am Cup

 CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (July 20, 2012)Canada lost to Peru on Friday to conclude the Pan American women’s volleyball tournament in eighth place.

In the seventh place match, the Peruvians won 25-19, 30-28, 25-21.  Canada’s overall record was three wins and five losses.  The highlight was a five-set victory over Cuba in the round robin portion of the tournament.

“We played a good tournament in the first part, but not in the last games,’’ said Canada’s head coach Arnd Ludwig.

On Friday, Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ont., led Canada with 19 points, Shanice Marcelle of Victoria added 13 and Brittney Page of Vernon, B.C., eight.

Peru put a lot of pressure against us with the serve and good execution,’’ said Page.  ‘’This was a tough match and I feel disappointed but we have learned a lot in this tournament.’’

The championship final scheduled for later tonight pits the U.S., against Brazil while Cuba and the Dominican Republic will battle for bronze.  Puerto Rico faces Argentina for fifth spot.

Beach volleyball World Tour

Meanwhile in Klagenfurt, Austria at a stop on the World Tour circuit in beach volleyball,  Christian Redmann of Toronto and Ben Saxton of Calgary completed their round robin at 0-3 and do not advance.
