Canada Falls to Argentina in Brandon Schools Match
BRANDON – In the final of four matches, the first three being played in Winnipeg and this one in Brandon, Team Canada lost to the Argentina National Team in straight sets 27-25, 25-22 and 25-23.
Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON) led Team Canada with 11 kills and Nadine Alphonse (Montreal, QC) had 6 kills and 5 blocks from the middle position. Team Argentina’s captain Georgina Pinedo had 12 kills and Lucia Fresco contributed 9 to the victory.
“We had too many unforced errors today,” said Canada Head Coach Arnd Ludwig. “The last two matches of the series showed us that we have to stay controlled and disciplined in tight situations. We did it very well in the first two, but didn’t follow the game plan in the second.”
The four game series is a valuable chance for Canada (20th) and Argentina (25th) to gain competitive international experience. It is especially exciting for Canada to be able to showcase their team in the city that they train full-time in.
This, the final match, marks the end of the four game series. Team Canada departs for the Pan Am cup this week in Mexico.
Canada’s roster for the series includes:
Janie Guimond (Becancour, QC), Tammy Mahon (Holland, MB), Claire Hanna (Calgary, AB), Dana Cranston (Fort St. John, BC), Carla Bradstock (Richmond, BC), Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON), Nadine Alphonse (Montreal, QC), Tasha Holness (Calgary, AB), Marie-Pier Méthot (Quebec City, QC), Lucy Charuk (Tsawwassen, BC), Brittney Page (Vernon, BC), Kyla Richey (Roberts Creek, BC), Lauren O’Reilly (Langley, BC), Elizabeth Cordonier (Vancouver, BC)
