Canada Continues High Level of Play in Second Match

WINNIPEG – In the annual ‘Schools Match’, and the second of four matches against Argentina, Canada again bested the visiting Argentina National Team this time in four matches 25-22, 20-25, 25-22 and 25-18 in front of a crowd of cheering students.

Marie-Pier Méthot (Quebec City, QC) led the Canadian attack with 14 kills, and Lucy Charuk (Tsawwassen, BC) had 11 from the middle. On the Argentina side team captain Georgina Pinedo contributed 15 and Daniela Gildenberger helped with 11.

The match was the second of three games in Winnipeg, and one in Brandon, as both teams prepare for the Pan Am Cup taking place early July in Mexico.

“We played very well today with lots of discipline,” stated Team Canada head coach Arnd Ludwig. “Our defense was strong and other than making a few errors in the second set we had a strong match.” He also said of Lucy Charuk’s first match; “She played very well and obviously has a strong presence on the court.”

The four game series is a valuable chance for Canada (20th) and Argentina (25th) to gain competitive international experience. It is especially exciting for Canada to be able to showcase their team in the city that they train full-time in.
