Canada beats Peru to open Manitoba series
Canada defeats Peru to Open three match series in Manitoba
WINNIPEG - Looking sharp in their new Mizuno uniforms, Canada
(ranked #22 in the world) opened a three match series against Peru (ranked
17th) tonight with a 3-1 victory at the University of Manitoba Investors
Group Athletic Centre in front of a crowd of 1,200. Set scores were 25-19,
23-25, 25-22, 25-18.
Tabi Love (Dauphin, MB) had 16 points with Lisa Barclay (Brandon, MB) and
Jamie Thibault (Sylvan Lake, AB) chipping in 12 each. Peru was led by #15
Karla Ortiz who scored 16 points.
"It was a good start to the series tonight," stated Head Coach Arnd Ludwig.
"We were a little on and off in the match, especially in the second set, we
were a little to passive waiting for them to make mistakes, but in sets 3
and 4 we got back in control of the match. It was good to see Tabi have a
good match in the role of a passing outside hitter."
Canada and Peru now take to the road as they play their second match of the
series tomorrow evening in Dauphin, MB before returning to Winnipeg to play
the final match back at the Investors Group Athletic Centre on Friday
evening. Both matches start at 7:00pm.
