Canada to battle for seventh place at Pan Am CupCIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (July 19, 2012) – Canada ran out of gas in its consolation semfinal on Thursday night as it lost in four sets to Argentina at the Pan American Cup women’s volleyball tournament.
After stringing together two consecutive five-set victories, the Canadian s fell 23-25, 25-14, 26-24, 25-14 to the Argentineans and will now play for seventh place on Friday against the loser of the Peru- Puerto Rico consolation semi.
“Argentina played a good match all the way through, with good defensive plays and execution,’’ said Canada’s captain Brittney Page of Vernon, B.C. ''The experience here has been good for us and we’ve been able to give everyone some valuable playing time in this tournament.’’
Shanice Marcelle of Victoria (IN PHOTO) was Canada’s top scorer with 15 points, Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ont., added 14 and her sister Rebecca Pavan 10.
For Canadian coach Arnd Ludwig he said: “we played better than yesterday (against Costa Rica) with fewer unforced errors, but with a lack of power.”
The championship semifinals later tonight pit Cuba against Brazil and the U.S., versus the Dominican Republic.
