Canada advances to fifth place match at Pan Am Cup

 LIMA, Peru (September 7, 2012) – The Trinity Western women’s volleyball team, representing
Canada, scored a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-20) victory over Colombia in the
consolation semifinals of the U-23 Women’s Pan American Cup on Friday.

The Spartans, based in Langley, B.C., were led by Amy Ott (Leschied) (East
Selkirk, Man.) who had 12 points, including four blocks, Nicole Bazin
(Winnipeg, Man.), who had eight tallies, and Amber Brown (Three Hills,
Alta.) and Kelci French (Okotoks, Alta.), who each added six points apiece.

The Spartans held an 11-4 blocking advantage, which was the major difference
in the match.

Trinity Western will now play for fifth place against Cuba. The game, which
will be the Spartans last of the tournament, will go Saturday at 4:00 p.m
EDT.

“I am very proud of my team because they played with good personality and
character,” Spartans coach Ryan Hofer said. “We knew Colombia was going to
be tough but we were able to solve the situations in complicated moments.”

Kelci French, the Spartans captain added: “It was an entertaining match and
our blocking and defence worked well.”
