Canada advances to championship pool

 DES MOINES, Iowa (July 27, 2012)  - The Canadian Junior Women's National Team has completed pool play with a 3-2 record at the 2012 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships following a decisive 3-0 win over the Iowa Region High Performance Team on Thursday afternoon.

The victory lifted Team Canada into a three-way tie for second place in the pool with the Iowa Region High Performance Team and USA Junior Women A2 Team.  After the tie breaking procedure, Team Canada claimed second place in the pool behind the Dominican Republic and will advance to the Championship Pool of 6 teams beginning play on Friday.   

Team Canada and Dominican Republic Junior National Team join the USA Junior Women's National Team, USA Junior Women's Training Team, USA Youth National Team and  Chilean Junior National Team in Championship Pool play.

"We are very excited to have reached the Championship round of this tournament" said Head Coach Scott Koskie.  "The team has come together quickly after being selected last Sunday and having only one 90 minute practice prior to starting our competition. 

‘’Each of our 14 players have made significant contributions throughout the first round to put us into this position.  They have worked hard to learn the Team Canada systems in a short period of time and apply them in match situations."

Team Canada Assistant Adam Schulz added: "the girls have shown that they are equal to the best Junior aged players in our region and their future is very  bright"  

Team Canada takes the court Friday morning at 10:15 vs USA Junior National Team and again at 2:00 vs USA Youth National Team.
