Canada’s Sarah Pavan puts her pro team back on track in women’s Champions League
OTTAWA – Canadian national team player Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ont., scored 21 points and was named the match’s top player as she led Villa Cortese (Italy) to its first victory at the Champions League women’s volleyball tournament.
The annual tournament which runs from November until the end March, determines Europe’s top professional club.
Villa Cortese, which lost its opening round robin match to Cannes (France) last week, defeated Schweriner (Germany), 21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-15. Pavan was also the match’s top spiker with 17 points and ranked second in serves with two aces and also had two blocks. After two matches she is currently third in scoring with 48 points averaging six points per set.
Villa Cortese’s next match is scheduled for December 14 at 2:30 p.m. (EDT) against Istanbul. The match will be carried live on the web from LAOLA1.TV. (www.laola1.tv).
